Online to offline (O2O) eLearning for creative writing

Designed for children A theme of mysticism and fantasy LMS for online and offline courses
Brief

The Wandering Raven is a young and audacious startup that wishes to be the go-to platform for creative writing. The client already had a basic website powered by Moodle LMS. Our job was to create a seamless, playful online + offline learning experience for children.

Primary users were the learners aged 8 to 19 interested in exploring their creative talents living in a city where the client had a local presence. However, we also had to provide for the possibilities of expanding to other locations as the product gains prominence and traction.

As a business that focuses on creative writing and online learning, we were looking for someone to understand not only the EdTech space, but also the magic and creativity we were trying to bring to our students through our program. Tcules was a great partner to work with.

We audited their existing setup of Moodle-based LMS and identified several design problems that needed urgent attention.

Disorganized Interface
Made it seamless, intuitive & non-obtrusive
Unengaging
Brought predictability in interactions, search and navigation
Mobile accessibility for learning
Restructured the layout and make it responsive
Unstructured Content
Organised the information grouping and prioritization
Lack of Playful and Gamified experience
Introduced progress tracking alongside community participation

Branding

Since the startup was in its early stages, we focused on creating a brand guideline that could directly appeal to the creative side of the children and their parents.

The brand assets were designed for its application across online and offline media.

The fun characters that the team created, and content flow made our website engaging and relevant.

Design

The design audit had already told us what design problems we had to solve.

As a part of the UX research, we interviewed the content and marketing teams, which helped us in adding new features and functionalities.

We created the information architecture, defined user journeys and mapped user flows. The output of this exercise brought much-needed clarity on how we would approach the wireframing stage.

Considering the time and budgetary constraints, we decided to go with a hybrid wireframing method. The UX team worked closely with the content and digital art teams to create high fidelity wireframes.

The client remained intimately involved across all the design stages, which not only ensured greater transparency in our operations but also allowed the client to reevaluate their ideas from fresh perspectives. This is a huge intangible value that we consistently give to all our clients.

Moodle Implementation

Our objective was to create an engaging, intuitive and accessible eLearning system to deliver meaningful, measurable results.

With our hands-on understanding of the online education domain, we did smart configuration and theming of Moodle LMS and integrated some essential Moodle plug-ins.

Basically, we took away the pain of installation, customization, integration and support, so that the client could focus on the content.

We had no knowledge about the design and development aspects of what would go into our site, which would use the Moodle platform, but the Tcules team was able to take everything we wanted and translate it into a beautiful website that inspires imaginative thought and makes it easy for students to engaging in meaningful learning through Moodle. Their commitment to the project and their turnaround time was incredible, and they maintained good communication with us through each phase of the project. We would definitely recommend working with Tcules for your design and development projects!
