UX Research

Tcules uses UX research to reduce uncertainty around a product decision by following the evidence gap in a workflow, role, unmet need, product model, prototype, market transition or implementation problem.

  • Research strategy
  • Workflow products

Begin with what could change

Before recruiting participants, define the decision the team faces, the current belief, the evidence already available, whose work and consequence are missing, what result would change the plan, and who can act on the finding.

If no plausible finding can change the decision, the study is performing reassurance rather than research.

Evidence can come from the work around the screen

In operational products, interviews and usability sessions are only part of the picture. Tcules may examine artefacts, support records, workarounds, handoffs, policies, product data and the environment in which the work occurs.

The Kirana research case keeps a clear boundary: the research established behavioural and operating insight; it does not establish a shipped product outcome. The Scissors case shows how research informed an object-oriented product model.

Choose the research shape from the uncertainty

Each row pairs a source of product uncertainty with evidence that may help the team decide what to change.

Research is proportionate to consequence. A reversible local correction does not require the same study as a changed approval model, financial commitment or AI recommendation that a professional must defend.

Research-evidence-decision trace

  1. Entities

    Trace the research chain

The research record connects the question, assumption, participant or source, observation, interpretation, confidence, competing explanation, decision and validation.

  2. Example content

    Keep observation separate from interpretation

“Recruiters leave the system to coordinate availability” remains an observation until the study distinguishes missing capability, policy, habit and integration constraints.

  3. Proof dependency

Attach public examples only where supported

Public client examples attach only where the case registry supports the method; no prevalence is inferred from a small study.

Outputs that can carry the work forward

Depending on the decision, the output may be a research record, opportunity model, object and role map, tested prototype, decision brief or product requirement. A slide deck is not the default unit of value.

The Doodle case shows research changing the product definition. An interview exposed priority as a variable that availability alone could not represent, which led to a meeting-priority framework and bookability direction. The evidence supports that decision sequence, not a scheduling outcome.

AI can accelerate handling without owning interpretation

AI may help transcribe, organise and compare approved research material. Tcules keeps participant context, source limits, competing explanations and the researcher’s interpretation visible. Client restrictions determine which tools and material may be used.

Generated synthesis is reviewed against the source record. It does not convert a small qualitative study into a prevalence claim or make an inferred theme more certain than the evidence.

Research the decision before the plan hardens

Use the next conversation to define the decision, the evidence gap and the research shape that would actually change the work.
